Bulk uploading user profile pictures to SharePoint 2010

So here’s the problem – I’ve got 330 user profiles which need pictures adding, I’ve got a folder full of pictures and if I were to add each one manually it would take me about 7 years (slight exaggeration!)

After a bit of googling I came across a great little tool created by djeeg on codeplex (http://spc3.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=ProfileImageUpload&referringTitle=Home)

The main thing here is to make sure you get the filenames of the photos correct so that the tool can match them with a user profile account.

In my case the usernames looked like domain\firstname.lastname – There is a section in the tool that asks for a regex filename format (the default is (\w+)_(\w+) ) – I changed this to (\w+) (\w+.\w+) and named my photos as follows: domain firstname.lastname.jpg

It worked like a charm and saved me 7 years of manual effort (ok probably a couple of days during which time I would have stabbed myself in the eye with my pencil out of sheer boredom)
